About Herman
Herman Jansen van Vuuren is British surrealist artist with a traditional approach to the usage of art materials. Born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, Herman combines his African perspective with an avant garde surreal "Western" approach to art. He studied fine art at UNISA (University of South Africa) and has since authored a book called "The Found Art of Paint Making" which explores paint making with environment friendly materials. His book has been published in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Having exhibited in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Oxford, London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Leamington Spa, Herman is recognised by international art collectors that have purchased more than 200 of his paintings over the last 20 years.
Herman has lectured at UNISA and also at the Oxford Brooks University, as well as being invited in 2007 to be the guest speaker (on paint making) at the Edinburgh Festival. He has presented a number of drawing, painting and paint making workshops for children and adults worldwide.
Currently residing in the UK, Herman also works as an aerospace engineering consultant and he works on a number of global aircraft projects each year.
